Earlier, BJP high command had asked state BJP Yuva Morcha leader Pratap Simha to stop Vijayashankar from resigning. However, Vijayashankar kept a distance from Pratap Simha and remained silent.

Speaking after his resignation, former minister said, he is depressed from the move of the state BJP leaders on various issues. He also alleged that, BJP leaders tried to make him a scapegoat of its assembly election strategy for the second time even if he has popularity in his constituency Periyapatna.

Vijayashankar further added, BJP senior leaders in Karnataka forced him to fight with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the next assembly elections leaving his current constituency Periyapatna where he has been working for the people for the past two to three years. An election battle with Siddaramaiah in his Chamundeshwari constituency can’t assure any success to BJP as Congress party dominates Chamundeshwari constituency followed by JD(S).
