Geethartha Chinthane-77: Imbalance due to artificial trend setting

There are two types of virtues: inherent virtue and influenced virtue. The former is one’s natural inclination, while the latter is an acquired or externally influenced disposition. Even a naturally virtuous person can be corrupted by external influences, and an inherently negative person can grow even more so under adverse influences. In the absence of a guardian or protector, even those not inclined to wrongdoing may turn to theft, while those with dishonest tendencies indulge even more. This notion that all life forms possess an inherent nature holds significance, especially as artificiality gains prominence in society.

Due to the growing influence of artificial trends, people are gravitating toward a limited number of fields, leading to the decline of several other sectors. For instance, financial companies once thrived, and telephone booths were in high demand, yet now, those fields have almost vanished. Today, there’s a rush toward careers in engineering and medicine, while agriculture is left neglected. Despite an increase in population and unemployment, rural homes remain empty, as urban life is perceived as superior. This shift has been driven by trendsetters, with women playing a decisive role in shaping trends within households.

Arjuna reflects on this imbalance, observing it in all spheres: scarcity in some areas and excess in others.
