IMD issues red alert for Aug 30 in DK, Udupi

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for August 30 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The department has predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in the region.

On August 31, the alert level will be downgraded to “Orange,” and further downgraded to “Yellow” for September 1 and 2. Winds are expected to blow at 35 to 45 km/h speeds. Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution.

An “Orange Alert” has also been issued for both Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts. Mangaluru experienced moderate rainfall on Thursday, with overcast skies throughout the day. Puttur and Sullia taluks saw good rainfall, while Bantwal taluk received moderate showers.

On Thursday Udupi district experienced significant rainfall accompanied by strong winds, thunder and lightning. Karkala and Kundapura taluks experienced moderate rainfall in various areas.

In Mangaluru, the maximum temperature recorded was 28.4°C, which is 0.6°C below the average, while the minimum temperature was 23°C, 0.1°C below the average.
