Mangaluru: The country’s massive IT Company Infosys which has been functioning since many years at Kottara will be completely relocated to the company’s own campus at Mudipu by March end.

The almost 500 employees at Infosys campus in Kottara will be transferred to the company’s fully equipped campus at Kambalapadavu in Mudipu near Konaje which was established a few years back. The BPO division which was functioning here was transferred to Mudipu just last year. This process was started a few months back. By the end of March, the complete relocation will have happened from Kottara to Mudupi campus. Post the transfer, the high level; administration committee of Infosys will take a decision regarding its campus at Kottara, informed credible sources from Infosys to “Udayavani”.

The property where the present Infosys building stands in Kottara, earlier belonged to Mangaluru Development Authority. They had planned to create a shopping complex there and a little of the construction had already begun. But since it suffered a loss, the work was stopped. The then Deputy Commissioner of the district Bharat Lal Meena had also proposed to convert that area into a bus stand. Later, it was let go and the former chief minister S M Krishna gave the land to Infosys and also inaugurated it. The building with an expanse of 2 lk sq ft is well equipped with all the facilities including swimming pool, open theatre, gymnasium and other facilities.

This building appears as a ship from one side and as a deserted building from the other side. This building which attracts gazes only through its special design also acted as a landmark in Mangaluru since decades together.

Fully equipped Mudipu campus

A few years back, an Infosys campus was created at Mudupi in an area of almost 350 acres. This campus has the capacity to contain 11,000 working staffs. The fully equipped campus also has a cricket stadium. Even the road in front of the campus is very well designed.

The question of transport

Currently, around 4,000 employees are functioning in various divisions at the Mudipu campus. Of them, most of the employees rely on the transportation facility provided by the company. Others are local residents. Now, since the Kottara campus has been shifted to Mudipu, those who were reporting at Kottara will henceforth be going to Mudipu.

Vehicle density

But, due to the Pumpwell, Thokkottu overpass issue there is a rise in traffic density and since the road from Thokkottu to Deralakatte is narrow, there is a increase in traffic density leading to transportation problems. This is a major headache for the transportation of the employees.

Wipro has not yet come!

With the complete transfer of Infosys campus from Kottara to Mudipu, it is as if IT industry in the city has taken a hit. Though there are a couple of small IT companies functioning in the city, big IT companies have shifted to the outskirts of Mangaluru. Amidst this, there were talks that Wipro company would be coming to Mangaluru, but it has not yet been realized.
