Mangaluru: Five accused arrested for cattle theft

Mangaluru: Five persons involved in a cattle theft case have been arrested, police said.

The arrested have been identified as Muhammad Ashfaq alias Shamir (22) of Gurunagar Banglagudde, Azharuddin alias Azhar (31) of Addur, Suhail (19) of Bajal Padpu, Mohammad Afrid (25) of Bajal Pakkaladka and Shahid alias Chayi (19) of Bajal Kattapuni.

The arrests were made in connection with the case of theft of cattle from the barn of Ashwin of Dota House of Bajal village under Kankanadi Nagar police station limits. A Maruti car, sword, and ropes used in the crime were also recovered from the arrested accused, police added.

Among the accused Azharuddin and Afrid have prior run-ins with the law. A case each is pending against Azharuddin in Bajpe police station and against Mohammad Afrid in Kankanadi Nagar police station.

The theft occurred on the intervening night of July 20 and 21. Ashwin had tied the cattle in the barn next to the house on the evening of July 20. The family heard the sounds of cows bellowing at night. When they checked a cow had been found missing. A complaint was later raised with the police.
