Manipal student identifies a bug in Google, wins $3133.7

A student of Manipal Institute of Technology, Sohom Dutta has been recognized for Google’s Vulnerability Reward Programme and has been bestowed $3133.7 as part of a prize for identifying a bug.

Soham said that he was searching an open book library source and could identify a bug in one of Google’s (Google library) programmes. He then reported about the bug at the beginning of June.

The prize amount was decided, depending on the severity of the bug.

Soham is a mentor at Wikimedia and is part of the Cryptonite student project team at MIT, which works on forensics, web exploitation, reverse engineering, and cryptography. He had also taken part in the Google Summer Code programme, which focused on introducing student developers into open source software development.

Google’s Vulnerability Reward programme aims at the safety of the users.
