Moodabidri all set for grand opening of international cultural jamboree of Scouts and Guides

Moodabidri: The town of Moodabidri is all set to host the 25th international cultural jamboree of Scouts and Guides being held for the first time in the country.

More than 20,000 campers of Scout, Guide, Rover, and Rangers have already arrived and the number will reach 60,000 by Wednesday afternoon. Beginning on December 21, cultural programs will be held in several performance arenas till December 27.

The theme of the jamboree will be ‘culture for youth solidarity.’

The cultural programs at the jamboree will be held from 5 pm to 8.30 pm each day on 10 stages prepared on Alva’s campus.  There will also be programs on the themes of agriculture/horticulture, science, books, art and culture, and food during the Jamboree.

The public is also welcome to view the performances during the jamboree.

Opening ceremony 

The week-long jamboree will be inaugurated by Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at 5 pm on December 21. Dharmadhikari and Member of Rajya Sabha Dr D. Virendra Heggade will preside over the function.

Secretary General of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) Ahmad Alhendawi, Karnataka ministers V. Sunil Kumar, S. Angara, Kota Shrinivas Poojari,Member of Parliament Naveen Kumar Kateel, and President of Bharat Scout and Guides Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, among other are expected for the inaugural event.

Foreign delegates 

Apart from Scouts, Guides, Rangers, and Rovers from across India, students from Malaysia and South Korea will also take part in the jamboree.

1,000 chefs to feed hungry campers

Elaborate arrangements have been made to cater to the nutritional requirements of the campers. As many as 1,000 chefs have been specially employed to feed the public as well as the students who are participating in the mega-event. Well-equipped kitchens and storehouses have also been constructed.

Special bus facility

More than 40 buses of KSRTC were pressedn into action from Mangalore Railway Station to Alva’s campus in Moodabidre on Tuesday to ferry the Jamboree particiapants arriving from across the nation. The KSRTC officials said that the special operation will continue on Wednesday as well.
