Opportunity for sand mining from farmland: Sindhu

Belthangady: The flood affected areas of the taluk including Ganesha Nagara, Didupe, Kajakke, Kukkavu, Charmadi Hosamata and other areas had a surprise visit from the Sindhu B Roopesh, Deputy Commissioner of DK on Friday.

During this occasion, the victims requested the DC to remove the sand deposited on their farmlands by the floods and also provide compensation for the losses incurred due to koleroga.

The DC later addressed the media at Belthangady and said that action has been taken for the removal of the river sand deposited on agricultural land due to the floods through the GP. Due to legal reasons, sand cannot be removed from the river. 22 locations have been identified in the district for storing sand and the tender process for 12 of them are in progress. Presently, the sand deposited by the floods is being checked, she informed.

53 families relocated

Importance has been given for the relocation of 22 families residing by the banks of the river and the people of 31 houses that were damaged due to collapsing. The compensation for loss to cultivation will be provided on the model of NDRF. 1,200 application have come from Belthangady taluk and the action will be taken after their inspection, she explained.

Highest compensation

Highest compensation will be provided for houses which have been damaged. Few areas have been identified for providing land and the plots will be distributed soon. For those who already have a plot have the opportunity to construct their house there, informed the DC.
