It may be recalled that 3,892.95 quintals of rice meant for PDS stored at the warehouse near the KSRTC depot in BC Road was found to be missing on Friday.

Dakshina Kannada district administration had taken serious note of the large-scale embezzlement, with District Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan visiting the spot. However, he informed the media that an investigation has to be done by the officials from the head office of KFCSC.

It is gathered that KFCSC officials may reach the warehouse on August 20 or 21. However, it is unclear what kind of investigations will be carried out by the officials.

A case has already been registered at the Bantal Town police station regarding the pilferage.  Police have detained Vijay, a junior assistant at the warehouse, and are interrogating him. Efforts are underway to identify the culprits behind the embezzlement.
