Udupi: Another accused arrested for issuing death threats to MLA Yashpal Suvarna

Kaup: The Kaup police have arrested one more accused for issuing death threats to Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Arif (32) a resident of Bajpe in Mangaluru, was arrested from Mumbai Airport on June 22, police said.

The case relates to the death threat posts made on social media against MLA Suvarna in June last year, when the hijab controversy was a raging issue in the coastal area. Kaup Constituency BJP Yuva Morcha office bearers had complained to Kaup police station for the arrest of the accused in this regard.

The main accused, Mohammad Shafi (26), a resident of Kenjaru near Bajpe, was arrested by the Kaup police earlier, while Arif was absconding.

The police got information that he would be returning to India from abroad. He was taken into custody at the Mumbai Airport. He was produced before the court which remanded him to police custody for one day.
