Udupi: Handloom saree exhibition and sale at Rajangana from January 1 to 15

Udupi: A handloom saree exhibition and sale will be held at the Rajangana Hall of Sri Krishna Matha from January 1 to 15, 2025. The event is organized as part of the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of Rajamata Ahilyabai Holkar.

The event is being held under the auspices of Sri Puthige Sri Krishna Matha, with the support of the Rajamata Ahilyabai Holkar Birth Tricentennial Celebration Committee and Padmashali Nekara Pratishthana (R).

The exhibition will be inaugurated on January 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM by Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji of Sri Puthige Sri Krishna Matha. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna will attend as the chief guest, and Dr. Pushpa Kini, a paediatrician from KMC Manipal, will grace the occasion as the guest of honour.

Rajamata Ahilyabai Holkar, who became the Maharani of Indore under the Maratha Confederacy, is also remembered for uplifting the Maheshwari saree industry, creating employment for thousands of women.

A press release from the organisers said that the exhibition will feature a wide range of handloom sarees, including the iconic Maheshwari sarees, which gained prominence under Rajamata Ahilyabai Holkar. Other varieties on display include Udupi, Ilkal, Kolkotta, Venkatagiri, Madhubani, Bihar’s Kasuti, Jharkhand’s Tasar Silk, Cotton Silk, Kolar Silk, Dharwad Kasuti, Pochampally, Malabar Silk, Mysore Crepe Silk, Pashmina, Kalankari, Molakalmuru, Hubballi Cotton, Kollegal Silk sarees, and traditional Kashmiri and Ladakhi shawls.
