World Environment Day: Thannirbavi beach cleared of plastic

Mangaluru: The week-long beach cleaning programme initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Govt of India, in collaboration with College of Fisheries, Mangaluru, district administration, and Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management at Thannirbavi beach continued on Saturday June 2nd.

The beach cleaning programme witnessed the active participation of the departments from Environment and Ecology, Department of Fisheries and students of College of Fisheries, Sahyadri Engineering College, Aided Vidhyadayini High School, Surathkal, Koloor High School and Bertrand Russell High School, Bikampady.

With help from the City Corporation, nearly a truckload of plastic garbage was picked up from the beach and disposed.

India has been chosen as global host for World Environment Day, 2018. Therefore the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, under the tagline of “Beat Plastic Pollution” has plans to undertake cleaning up of beaches and river stretches in the country.
