The Indian Customs in a press release said that the confiscations were made on the basis of profiling and extensive surveillance maintained by the officers of Mangaluru Customs.
The five passengers arriving from Dubai to Mangaluru on different flights (IX814, IX384, 6E1163) on September 23 and September 24 were intercepted after crossing the green channel. When the luggage was scanned, open examination of the trolley bags, frisking, and detailed interrogation of these passengers gold of 24 carat total weighing 775 grams (net) valued at Rs. 46,52,270/- was recovered.
The gold objects were concealed in various forms including in a paste form hidden between layers of vest and underwear worn, concealed in air pods, and concealed in the form of beading rods of their trolley bags.
