As many as 625 medical stores in Dakshina Kannada and 400 medical shops in Udupi district downed their shutters in protest against the Central government’s move to regularise the sale of medicines online.
The bandh impacted the availability of necessary drugs and life-saving medicines to the needy people in twin districts. A few medical stores defied the bandh call and chose to remain open.
However, the medical stores in hospitals and nursing homes were open; patients admitted at hospitals did not face any inconvenience. By evening, most of the stores opened.
