HC asked police to hand over cash found in advocate’s car to IT dept

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has directed the Vidhana Soudha police to hand over Rs. 1.97 crores to the IT Department

Income Tax Department will handle the investigation of 1.97 crores cash which was seized by vidhan souda police from a car belonging to a high court avocate Sidharta in the vidhan soudha premises during a routine security check on October 16 2016. A complaint was registered thereafter and investigations were taken up by vidhan souda police.

State congress leaders were against handing over this case to the IT department stating that cash seized by the police belonged to few influential BJP leaders who may use the party central leadership to weaken the case.

Vidhana Soudha police rejected a request from the IT department to hand over the money to them to find out the source of this huge cash. Following this the IT department had moved the high court which has now directed the police to hand over the money to IT department after executing an indemnity bond.
