Many volunteers took part in the beach clean-up campaign including students from Alva’s College, Manipal Dental College, Mulki Scouts and Guides and members of various organisations such as Mangalore Bicycle Club and Thyme Family Restaurant.

The volunteers gathered at Mantra Surf Club early in the morning and were later ferried across the river on boats to the beach where they were briefed about collection and segregation of waste material. Different types of garbage were carefully segregated into plastics, glass bottles, rubber and biodegradable, and later transported in plastic bags to the waste treatment plant.

The deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil, Income Tax Joint Commissioner Saurabh Dubey and others were present on the occasion and lauded the efforts of the organisers, students and Mantra Surf Club.

The foundation, in a release here stated that it is determined to continue playing a major role in the beach clean-up programmes and initiatives with government agencies, private organisations and corporate bodies to free the State’s coastline of plastics.
