Mangaluru: In the backdrop of the constant ridicule over non-completion of Pumpwell flyover, district BJP has launched a counter-offensive against Congress questioning them on the status of the 18-year-old 'Ombathukere Ashraya Mane' scheme aimed at providing homes for the poor.
Taking to social media, BJP started trolling MLA U T Khader in whose constituency the project was implemented in the year 1999 by then MLA U T Fareed. Over 300 houses, built in the 10-acre land purchased for the Ashraya scheme remains unoccupied since 2002.
Pointing out that UT Khader is the MLA of this area since 2007 the BJP sought to know why he has not been able to make much progress in the project and suggested MLC Ivan D'souza to hold a mock inaugural for Ashraya Mane scheme as well.
It may be recalled that a court had ruled that the houses could be handed over to beneficiaries only after providing an underground drainage (UGD) network while hearing a petition voicing concern pollution of the nine “sacred” lakes (Ombathukere) nearby as the houses, under the scheme had not been provided toilets or a drainage system. Notably, these houses are in a dilapidated condition now.
Meanwhile the Ullal underground drainage scheme which is getting rusted since eight years also became a matter of discussion.
