According to the respective district administrations, 944 houses in DK and 675 houses in Udupi district have either been completely destroyed or suffered partial damages.
Rs 5 lakh in four installments will be provided to those hoses which have suffered complete damage (more than 75%). Initially Rs 1 lakh will be provided followed by Rs 1.50 lakh for the foundation, followed by Rs 1.50 lakh for the roof and lastly Rs 1 lakh during completion. Until the completion of the construction of the house, Rs 5,000 will be provided in the first phase to manage the rent expenses and for the subsequent 10 months or Rs 50,000 will be provided to construct a temporary shed.
In case of the house having suffered partial damage, Rs 25,000 will be provided during the first phase and during the completion of the house, Rs 75,000 will be provided, thus a total of Rs 1 lakh will be provided. Depending on the demand, the Deputy Commissioner will be releasing the amount to Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board. Based on the GPS enabled photographs of the eligible damage houses, the amount will be directly deposited into the bank account of the beneficiary. The application of the victims has been uploaded into the website of the board. The process of sending it for approval from the DC and the auditing from the tahsildar after taking the GPS photos is on the final stages. As soon as it gets approved, the beneficiaries will get an order letter from the board. Some have already received it, informed Mangaluru tahsildar Guruprasad.
Completion of the house within 10 months; notice
The beneficiaries must themselves re-construct/ repair their houses. A foundation of not less than 350 sq ft must be laid within a month and the whole structure must be completed within a maximum of 10 months. Houses which have suffered partial/minimal damages must be repaired within a month. If this is not completed within the given time limit, the provided funds will be taken back. There is opportunity to get loan from the local banks at the interest rate of DRE and the GP or the local bodies may be contacted regarding this, informed the board.
Rs 1,000 crore released for 13 districts
The government has released a total of Rs 1,000 crore into the accounts of the DCs of 13 districts in the state for the construction of houses which suffered major damages due to the floods. The highest amount released is for Belagavi district at Rs 500 crore followed by Chikkamagaluru at Rs 25 crore, Kodagu with Rs 25 crore and Rs 30 crore released to Uttara Kannada.
Rs 15 crore released for DK
