About three months ago, the elephant had been captured from the Subrahmanya forest area of Dakshina Kannada after two people were killed in tusker attacks. The captured elephant was christened Subrahmanya and was moved to the Kanthapura elephant camp in Mathigod here and was undergoing training by trained mahouts.
According to Nagarahole officials, Subrahmany was released from the Kraal on July 20 and was being trained at the camp.
On August 11 morning, the elephant failed to get on its feet and was subsequently given medical treatment by the park’s veterinarian. However, Subrahmanya breathed its last later in the evening without responding to treatment.
