Bengaluru: The JD(S) officially expelled rebels CM Ibrahim and party’s national vice president CK Nanu for “anti-party” activities. This decision was made during the national executive meeting, attended by state presidents and core leaders.

The move came just before Nanu’s planned national plenary meeting, where the rebel faction aimed to take action against Gowda and JD(S) legislature party leader HD Kumaraswamy for aligning with the BJP-led NDA.

At a news conference, JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda stated that Nanu’s announcement of a parallel meeting was seen as an “anti-party” activity, prompting their expulsion. The agenda of Saturday’s meeting focused solely on ratifying Ibrahim’s expulsion and removing Nanu.

According to Gowda, Ibrahim, despite being part of discussions on the BJP alliance, spoke against the party publicly, leading to his expulsion, which was unanimously supported. The party plans to conduct an election for the national vice president’s post in six months.

Nanu’s expulsion will be communicated to the Election Commission. He scheduled a national plenary session on December 11 to address the situation and take action against party leaders involved in the BJP alliance, citing Article 17 of the party’s constitution.

The Nanu-Ibrahim faction had set a December 9 deadline for Gowda to retract the decision to form a coalition with the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
