The State’s Cabinet had approved the Karnataka Civil Services (Appointment on Compassionate Grounds) (Amendment) Rules, 2021 in January.

As per the rules, on the death of a serving government employee, the first person to be considered for the job, on compassionate grounds, will be the spouse and if they do not qualify then the son or daughter (whether single, married or divorced) of the deceased employee based on the seniority of age.

The new Rules also permits other dependents or guardians of the deceased employee if he or she has no children.
