This data was provided by the Health Department to the State government which is considering plans to reopen schools.

Over 8.32 lakh cases of COVID-19 infections have been reported across the State in the past eight months. In them, the number of children under the age of 15 is around 50-60 thousand and 28,964 are under 10 years of age.

The main reasons for less infection in children is because they did not go out much and the ‘ace receptors’ that facilitate entry of the virus into the body are found less in children. Additionally, they have higher immunity causing them less likely to be infected said many paediatricians.

However, children can be ‘corona carriers.’
