Karnataka High court need more judges: Siddaramaiah writes to Prime Minister Modi

Bengaluru: After the hunger strike by the Advocates Association, Bengaluru, (AAB) over the delay in appointment of judges went intense on Monday; Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday seeking to immediately take measures in appointing judges to the Karnataka High Court.

In the letter, Siddaramaiah pointed out the facts that Karnataka High Court is functioning at 38 percent against its total sanctioned strength. There is vacancy of 47 judges against the sanctioned 62.  He also added that there are more than 2.5 lakh cases pending before the Karnataka High Court and the number of cases is increasing day by day while the numbers of judges are decreasing.

Siddaramaiah also pointed out that in various high courts of the nation 150 judges have been out of which only two judges were appointed to the Karnataka High Court.

This comes amid protests by the Advocates Association, Bengaluru, (AAB) over the delay in appointment of judges.
