‘Kudlada Pili Parba 2022’ showcases rich culture of Tulunadu

Mangaluru: Kudla Samskruthika Pratishtana, under the guidance of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath, held the maiden edition of ‘Kudlada Pili Parba 2022’ at Nehru Maidan on October 2.

Beginning in the morning, the unique traditional ‘pili vesha’ (tiger dance) competition enthralled the spectators through out the day.

Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister V. Sunil Kumar inaugurated the event and wished good luck. Mangaluru South MLA D.

Vedavyas Kamath welcomed the gathering and suggested that this program be organized every year so as to spread the traditional arts of Tulunad to the country and abroad.  Those who won the Pili Parba will be allowed to participate in the state-level program, he said.

As many as 12 teams of 15 members each participated in the unique contest. The teams were allotted 20 minutes each to showcase their skills in all facets of the customary Tulunadu pili vesha, featuring body art, choreography, demonstration, and the ability to lift the ‘rice mudi’, a sack that weighs 40 kg.

A huge viewing gallery had been erected for the convenience of the spectators. The facepainting booth drew a large crowd as kids and adult alike lined up to get their faces painted with tiger motifs.
