MAHE- British Council pact to start IELTS on campus

Manipal: Manipal Academy of Higher Education and British Council signed an agreement at the University building on Monday to make the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) available for students on the campus here. The agreement was signed by Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Mr Michael King,Managing Director, British Council Examinations and English Services India Pvt Ltd

Pro Vice Chancellors of MAHE, Dr Poornima Baliga (Health Sciences) and Dr PLNG Rao (Quality Assurance), Registrar, Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Director International Relations, Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan, Dean KMC, Manipal, Dr Pragna Rao and Director Planning and Monitoring, Dr Aparna IN were present.

Prior to signing the agreement, Mr King met MAHE students and apprised them about (IELTS) which is the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. Over 3 million candidates took this test last year as it is accepted by over 10,000 organisations worldwide, including schools, universities, employers, immigration authorities and professional bodies.

IELTS is the only English language test that is accepted by all of the key immigration authorities in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, for visa applications and migration purposes. Presently, IELTS is available in Bengaluru and Mangaluru in Karnataka. This agreement will provide a seamless testing process to university students and other aspirants.

In addition, British Council will conduct three-day Train The Trainer (TTT) programme for the trainers of the college, as part of this association. Through this, it is expected that the students will also receive support in preparing for the test.

Mr. King said, “We are very pleased to have signed the agreement today. Through this agreement we will create higher education opportunities for aspirants who register with Manipal by providing them easy access to IELTS. Manipal is an educational hub which attracts students from across the country for technical education. We are pleased that we can help Manipal students and the community around Manipal realise their dreams of studying, working and emigrating abroad in pursuit of international opportunities”,

Dr. Vinod Bhat commented, “I am happy to associate with British Council to provide opportunities for our students. It will be easier for our students to go abroad to pursue an international education and international opportunities”.
