Mangaluru: 31-year-old sentenced to 18 years behind bars for stalking, stabbing girl

A court in Mangaluru convicted a 31-year-old man of stalking and stabbing a student in Ullal and sentenced him to 18 years and 1 month in prison.

The convict has been identified as Sushant alias Shan.

The incident took place on June 28, 2019. Sushant had been accused of stalking the girl, who was walking on the road, at Bagambila near Ullal Police Station. He had behaved indecently with her and stabbed her with a knife. He had later cut himself in the neck and hand.

The victim and the accused both recovered after receiving medical treatment.

The Second Additional District and Sessions (Special) Court examined the testimony of a total of 21 witnesses. Following arguments, Judge Preeti K P found Sushant guilty of all the charges made against him. Sushant was ordered to undergo a prison term of 18 years and 1 month for the crimes committed.

The court also ordered a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs to the victim.  

Public prosecutor Jyoti Pramod Nayak argued on behalf of the victim.
