Responding to a complaint during the weekly phone-in programme here, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manjunath Shetty said that traffic signals that are set to a time were causing traffic jams during peak hours at Ambedkar Junction, Balmatta Junction and Karavali Junction.

In response to this, the police commissioner said that the traffic police should opt for manual operation of traffic signals. Manual operation will prevent traffic jams during peak traffic movement. It will also be helpful during VIP movement.

“The traffic signals can also be operated manually. Our staff needs to be trained in it,” he told reporters.

Social worker B S Hasanabba called and informed of a cheating network functioning in the city where a phone call is made and the caller informs that they are women police and that there is opportunity to stop the case through negotiations. Therefore the person on the other side of the line needs to come with some money. The social worker requested the police to take notice of the issue and take necessary action. He also pointed out that the vehicles in the city do not make space for the ambulance to pass through. There was a complaint from a trader from the city’s central market stating that due to the road side vendors, traders within the market who pay rent are incurring loss. Besides, as the footpaths and roadsides have been encroached by roadside vendors, the customers are unable to enter the market.

In response Mr Suresh asked the officers to immediately start an operation to evict roadside vendors and illegal shacks within the vicinity of the Surathkal and central market area.

Another caller pointed out that haphazard parking of vehicle along the Kuttar-Deralakatte road causes a major hindrance to the free flow of vehicular traffic and that buses are being illegally stopped in the middle of Thokkottu road. In response the police commissioner asked the traffic police to lock such vehicles and book cases.

Notice to seize buses

Ullal-Kunjaithbail route private bus which is supposed to travel via Taretota has changed its route and is instead going through Kankanady-Bendorewell-Kadri-Mallikatte-Nanthoor route. This is causing problem to passengers from Taretota area, complained a caller. In response, the commissioner observed that there have been multiple complaints from that bus and therefore directed ACP Manjunath shetty to seize the vehicle instead of levying a fine.

Proper decision

A caller informed that a barricade that had been placed near Durga Mahal at Mannagudda was recently removed and because of this the students are finding it difficult to cross the road. Therefore the caller requested to put back the barricade at here. Mr Suresh responded and said that an inspection will be done based on which a proper final decision will be taken.

Another caller informed that some suspicious people were loitering in Malemar locality and in response the police commissioner said that the patrol system will be tightened.

In response to a complaint that fish was being sold on the roadside at Haleyangadi, Mr Suresh said that this will be informed to the local Panchayat and a notice will be sent for the creation of a fully equipped fish market here.

High beam light of two wheelers

A caller complained that a few two wheeler riders, under the influence of alcohol ride their bikes at exceeding the limit speeds, that too with their headlights on high beam during the nights. In response the commissioner informed that operation is being conducted against drink and drive offence. Action will also be taken against high beam headlight, he said.
