Nearly one-third of the fish in the Brazilian Amazon state of Amapa have such high levels of mercury caused by illegal mining

The researchers sampled 428 fish from 18 sites across inland and coastal aquatic systems.

Researchers claim the level surpassed safety limits in 77.6 percent of carnivorous fish, 20 percent of omnivores and 2.4 percent of herbivores

Also, eating more than 200 grams of those species could be harmful to a person’s health
