Mangaluru: The 2
nd additional district and sessions Court and the POCSO special Court Judge B R Pallave has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Rs 10,000 under the POCSO act for sexually assaulting his minor niece.
The convict is is identified as Chandrakant (44), a resident near Gowri Math in Mangaluru. The punishment has been ordered within 9 months of investigation based on medical and investigating officer’s evidence and under IPC sec 376 and section 6 of the Pocso act.
Incident details
An 11-year-old girl child who was a relative of Chandrakant’s wife had come to her aunt’s house on summer vacation. On the midnight of May 2
nd 2018, the minor girl was sexually assaulted by Chandrakant.
Witnessing this, Chandrakant’s wife glistered a case regarding the crime with Pandeshwar women’s police station. An investigation in this connection was conducted under the leadership of SI Kalavati. Altogether 8 witness were recorded in connection to the crime including the victim child, her mother, wife of the accused, grandmother and others. Special public prosecutor C Vekataramana argued on behalf of the prosecution.
