Mysuru: 2 kg gold stolen from constable's house, insider role suspected

Mysuru: Gold weighing around 2 kg was stolen from the house of a woman constable in Mysuru’s Saraswatipuram on Monay, August 31. With no sign of break-in or forcible entry, police suspect that relatives might be involved in the theft.

The theft took place at the residence belonging to Viji Kumar, a businessman and his wife Vanajakshi, who works as a constable in Mysuru police department.

On September 17, Viji tested positive for coronavirus and had been admitted to a hospital for treatment. On Monday, his mother too was diagnosed with the infection and Vanjakshi had taken her to the hospital.

When she returned she noticed that the gold valuables were missing however there was no sign of forced break-in. As per the complaint, nearly 1.5 kg gold belonged to the couple while another half kg gold had been kept at their house by a relative, whose house was under repair.

Saraswatipuram police station officer Vijay Lumar visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Sniffer dogs too were used to detect any scent but nothing suspicious was found. Police suspect insider role in the theft.
