Narrow escape in stampede for Deve Gowda couple during car festival

Hassan: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) Leader HD Deve Gowda and his wife Chennamma had a narrow escape in the stampede during the Brahmarathotsava of Lakshminarasimhaswamy temple in Holenarasipur of Hassan on Friday.

Deve Gowda and his wife Chennamma along with their son HD Revanna took part in the annual Brahmarathotsava car festival of the temple.  Deve Gowda wanted to pull the chariot for a little distance. After performing the pooja, he tried to hold the rope to pull the chariot.

When the prosession began, the other devotees present there also started pulling the chariot without noticing Deve Gowda’s presence. The crowd resulted in Stampede. The Deve Gowda couple got confused.

Revanna who was present nearby pushed them aside saving them from the Chariot running over them infraction of time.

The police personnel’s whistled to halt the chariot but went unheard amid the chanting of the hymns by the devotees. Deve Gowda and his wife were taken to the side onlookers to prevent them from getting stuck in the crowd.

It is because of Revanna’s presence of mind that saved his parents from the possible stampede.
