Natural disaster; taluk level team

Mangaluru: In the backdrop of natural calamities having occurred at some places in the district during the last monsoon, the Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has ordered to take precautionary actions under the leadership of taluk tahsildars to prevent the occurrence of any problems this year.

The DC was speaking at the progress review meeting of various departments on Thursday. A fully equipped control room already exists in the district. Taking into consideration of the calamity last year, the DC directed the creation of a network from the control room, which would send a team made up of good workers to provide assistance to affected areas.

In case of a calamity, the officials must carry out their duties through coordination. Taluk level team must be created which will include the police, firefighters and other concerned departments. Action must be taken considering the natural calamity that has occurred earlier and the present situation. A list on actions to be taken must be created first. Care must be taken regarding sea erosion as well, he said.

Open canals

Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and the local institutions must open closed canals. There is no ban on calling tenders for such works, clarified the DC. The tahsildar has been empowered to provide relief within 48 hours to loss of life or any other loss during monsoon season. Delay will not be permitted, he informed.

The fire brigade is well equipped with essential equipments to face the rain, informed Fire Department officials. The Red Cross organization is ready to provide assistance 100 volunteers if required, said Prabhakar Sharma, Honourary Secretary of the organization.

Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Venkatachalpathy, Superintendent of Police Laxmi Prasad, Assitant Police Commissioner Shrinivas Gowda, Assistant Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, Krishnamurthy and Fire Brigade Commissioner T N Shivshanker were present.

Holiday for school; Responsibility for tahsildar

The DC said that during the monsoons season, considering the safety of the children, the tahsildar must consult DDPI or BEO before announcing a holiday for schools. A patrol vehicle has been appointed to keep a look out and notify landslides or any other problem along Shiradi and Charmadi Ghat. The DC directed the tahsildar of Puttur, Belthangady and assistant commissioner Krishnamurthy of be prepared to provide assistance in case of a landslide.
