New Govt Skin Bank in Bengaluru gets good demand from patients, private hospitals

Bengaluru: Newly established government skin bank is witnessing a good demand as private hospitals, individuals are asking the bank to supply skin to those who have damaged their skin due to accident, burns, wounds and others. For the time being, the skin bank is supplying skin only for emergency cases.

Any one who are above the age group of 18 years can donate their skin to the bank and the bank authorities are trying to get the skin from those who die in the road accidents. The doctors opine that, skin has greater demand now days as it is a major solution for injuries caused by burns. Therefore, the donor should come forward to donate their skin to the needy patients.

Those who have HIV infection and skin decease cannot donate their skin to the patients. The donated skin should be taken from the dead body within 6 hours and can be stored only for 3 to 4 four weeks in cold storage. Bengaluru skin bank is the third bank after Mumbai and Chennai in the country.
