Earlier, for the renewal of the permit, the businessmen had to submit their applications to the Health Department at the end of February month. Later, after the completion of all the process the businessmen would receive their permits in 8-10 days. But with the implementation of the new rule, the permits have not been renewed even after three months and remain stuck in problem.

Irritation of the new rule

Before the new rule, the businessmen submitted their application for permit renewal to the Health Department. If old permit was submitted then the officials would provide a challan for it.

All the remaining process would be completed and the businessman would receive his renewed permit by 10 days. But this time, there is a condition that tax receipt and building account must be submitted for permit renewal. But since it was not possible to provide the account, the condition was discarded. Later the corporation decided that for any application from the business, the officials from the Health Department would inspect the place of the business only after which the challan would be provided. But the Health Department has only 6 staffs. When more than 35,000 businesses in Mangaluru have submitted their application for permit renewal, where will the 6 staffs go and carryout the inspection? Because of this there is a delay. This rule of the corporation has caused much trouble to businessmen.

Only 6 people!

The new decision has been taken since businessmen are providing false information in their documents. But there is also a question on how will the only 6 staffs of the Health Department inspect the over 35,000 business and submit the document. This confusion created by the corporation ahs compelled businessmen to repeatedly visit the corporation. Of them, some have received their permits albeit late and more than 15,000 businessmen are still waiting for their permits.

New action to handle the problem

“New action has been taken to solve the problem being faced during the submission of business permits. Some used to provide false information while providing permits. This method has been used to bring transparency in the rule,” explains Narayanappa, Deputy Commissioner, MCC

Two months have passed and still no permit

“I had submitted the application on March 19th. I have not yet received the permit due to various reasons including election and official inspection of the site. For this I have visited corporation several times. No one is responding properly,” helplessly complains Prashant, a businessman
