Police commissioner assures action against illegal sand transport to Kerala

Mangaluru: Responding to a caller complaining about the illegal sand transportation is taking place to Kerala through Devipura road ahead of Talapady tollgate, the city police commissioner Sandeep Patil assured to consider the matter and deploy police personnel to stop the offence. Mr Patil was responding to the police phone-in programme held at his office on Friday March 8^th.

Action would be initiated against sand trucks that move about inside the city without covering the sand with tarpaulin and against trucks which obstruct movement of pedestrians on the footpaths, assured the commissioner.

To a complaint from a caller regarding vendors and goods vehicles on the footpaths causing lack of space for other vehicles to park, the commissioner asked to undertake operation to clear such obstacles. Notice would also be sent to people who heap construction materials on main roads in the city, assured Mr Patil.

A prestigious educational institution in the city is carrying children in excess to the sanctioned capacity complained a woman and requested that the documents of such vehicles he checked and warning be issued in this regard. Mr Patil responded and said that the necessary steps would be taken.

Responding to a complaint regarding youngsters violating traffic rules while riding two wheelers on Kadri road and the possibility of them doing this under the influence of drugs, the commissioner promised to check the CCTV footage and the guilty would be booked.

Vehicle towing operation

The vehicles being towed are handed over to their respective police stations. As the police control rooms are informed immediately after towing the vehicles, owners or drives of vehicles can call police control room (0824 – 2220800) and obtain information, informed the commissioner.

Tint has been removed from 2,500 vehicles, 106 vehicles were towed and 143 cases were registered during the last one week, added Mr Patil.
