The arrested identified as Pruthviraj, a native of Bihar resides in Bengaluru for several years now.
On August 5, Pruthviraj lodged a missing complaint about his wife Jyothi Kumari at Madiwala police station. In his complaint, he claimed that Jyothi had gone missing since August 3, and efforts to trace her went in vain. Her phone too was switched off, he stated.
Further, he said that Jyothi had on two earlier occasions left home but returned in the evening. Off late she had been urging him to relocate to Delhi, but Pruthviraj was reluctant as his business is based in Bengaluru.

Pruthviraj often found her talking to someone on the phone and thus suspected that she was not getting physical with him as she liked the other person. Jyothi also allegedly mocked Pruthviraj and his family and would pick up fights over petty issues.
Frustrated by all this Pruthviraj planned the murder and took the help of his friend Samir Kumar from Bihar.
He convinced Jyothi to go on a holiday outing with him to Malpe in Udupi district. On August 1, the couple along with Samir drove to Malpe and during the return leg of the journey, Pruthviraj and Samir stopped the car in Shiradi Ghat and allegedly strangled Jyothi using her dupatta. They then dumped her body in the forest and returned to Bengaluru.
Police took him to the crime scene and recovered Jyothi’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
