Revised MVA: Rs 1.75 lakh collected in fines for traffic rule violation in Udupi

Udupi: The revised Motor Vehicle Act with drastically increased fines for traffic rule violation came into effect within Udupi district from Sep 5th and till now, Rs 1.75 lakh has been collected through penalties.

Rs 1,12,500 in fine was collected on Saturday alone. Of them include 66 for not wearing seat belts and 72 for riding without wearing helmets. For some other cases, court notices have been issued.

Around 300 cases have been booked within 3 days with the fines being collected on the spot, while in some cases, court notice have been issued.

The heat of fines touch students as well

On Saturday, in the backdrop of the celebration of the taking charge of the post in the student association, the office bearers of the student association took out procession in more than 10 open vehicles in the city. Other vehicles too joined in with the procession. The cops had provided security for the procession. But during the evening, the procession moved towards MGM college and during the occasion, some students attempted to barge into MGM college grounds. This was prevented by the cops. Later the police booked cases and collected fines from the students for not possessing proper documents and for violating traffic rules.

The new order has not yet been implemented in Mangaluru. However, the software update process has almost been completed, informed the police commissioner Dr| Harsha.
