One part of the concrete road at the bend of the main road has suffered major collapse and it is feared that the road might be lost completely if the rain persists. This road is the connecting road between Kollur and Shimoga and hundreds of vehicles ply through this road daily. Vegetable trucks from Shimoga and other areas pass through this road and now with the ban on the movement of heavy vehicles here, the vehicles will have to rely on a round-about route.

Heavy rains prevent repair work

With the torrential rain occurring at Nagodi, Nittur and Kollur areas since the last ten days, repairing the road has become quite a question to the concerned department. Devotees trying to reach Kollur temple are unable to reach it due to the ban are now proceeding via another longer route.

With the daily rise in the rain intensity, Moddodi road has collapsed on one hand and impeding the traffic there, now the collapse at Nagodi has hindered the movement of vehicles on the other side as well. The situation is so bad that a passenger going towards Shimoga will have to alight from his present bus at Nagodi, cross collapsed road on foot and then board the bus to Shimoga on the other side.

Technically, according to the Kollur border map, the main road comes within the jurisdiction of the PWD and was later handed over to NHAI and Kollur police have sent requests to both, PWD and NHAI, urging them to repair the damaged road. Hosanagara and Kollur police have stopped the passage of heavy vehicles at two separate locations and for the time being, cars have been permitted to pass through the affected section of the road.
