An autorickshaw driver, who intervened and tried to catch hold of the accused, was hit on his head by the assailant, who fled with the bag containing the cash.

The incident was reported from south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar.

Kamaljeet Sethi had gone to a bank in his car to deposit the cash. While he was walking towards the bank carrying the bag, a man, whose face was covered with a handkerchief, came from behind and tried to snatch the bag, the police said.

The autorickshaw driver then tried to catch hold of the accused but he was hit by the accused with the butt of the weapon.

The auto rickshaw was later discharged after the treatment. Mr Sethi underwent a surgery and is stable, the police said.

It is suspected that the accused were three in number and were following Sethi from Lado Sarai. One of them was stationed near the bank while the others stood at a distance.

The incident took place at a spot barely 200 metres away from Malviya Nagar police station.

Mr Sethi lives with his family in Mehrauli and has a petrol pump in Lado Sarai.
