Udupi: Minister for Tourism, Kannada and Culture C T Ravi on Tuesday said that the Tourism-related works worth Rs 16.10 crore were sanctioned to the district and government had released Rs 8.60 crore so far.
Speaking at a review meeting held at DC’s office here Ravi said that a comprehensive plan would be drawn up to develop tourist spots in the State with the participation of the private sector.
He further added that there is a need to promote Hasta Shilpa and Mannupalla Lake in Manipal.
He also directed the Education Department officers to conduct a tour of schoolchildren to places visited by Gandhiji under the Karnataka Darshana programme as the country was celebrating his 150th birth anniversary. Schoolchildren should be told to follow any three principles of Gandhiji such as truth, non-violence, societal harmony and cleanliness.
K. Raghupati Bhat and Halady Srinivas Shetty, MLAs, said that the implementation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms was hampering the development of beach tourism in the district. Floowing which Ravi directed the CRZ officer to coordinate with the district administration with regard to the implementation of tourism projects.
