In its proposal, the state government has formally requested the Centre to include the Karnataka flag in the schedule of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1950.
The Karnataka government had unveiled a state flag on March 8 in line with chief minister Siddaramaiah’s platform of Kannada pride. The state flag, Nada Dwaja in Kannada, was approved by the cabinet and was later sent to the Union home ministry for its approval.
Once the new flag is approved, Karnataka will become only the second state in the Indian Union to have a separate flag, after Jammu and Kashmir.
