Techie commits suicide after fiancé breaks engagement, accuses her of father’s death

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident reported from the IT city, a techie killed herself after her fiancé broke off their wedding scheduled for May 29 this year.

Nagalakshmi (32), software engineer and team leader in a reputed software firm was engaged to Karthik, also a software engineer employed in Hyderabad. The engagement took place last year. But within 20 days of the engagement, Karthik’s father died in a road accident and the wedding was postponed for this year.

However after deciding on the date of marriage, Karthik and his family broke off the engagement stating that Nagalakshmi was ill-fated and reportedly blamed her for Karthik’s father’s death. The development came even after Nagalakshmi’s family had distributed wedding invitations.

Upset over the development, Nagalakshmi hung herself on Tuesday evening. The incident came to light only after her mother returned from a temple. She had left behind a four-page death note.

It is said that Karthik’s family had also decided to return the money Nagalakshmi’s family had spent on the engagement.

The local police registered a case and are investigating.
