Speaking to reporters here, he said that the mosques at our places of worships at Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura are a symbol of slavishness. These must be replaced in the future with grand temples.

I too took part in the fight for the Ram temple at Ayodhya and was beaten with lathis. The magnificent temple being built in Ayodhya today is a result of the sacrifice of many people, he added.

The Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi (Kashi) and the Shahi Idgah mosque at Mathura were built on or near to Hindu temples.

The Gyanvapi mosque in Kashi was built in 1669 by Aurangzeb and shares a boundary wall with the Vishwanath temple. It is claimed that the mosque was built on land owned by the temple.

Mathura’s Shahi Idgah mosque is said to be built on a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna’s at the site of his birth. Aurangzeb had destroyed the temple in 1670 to build the mosque.
