Surya Orungati, who booked an Uber cab from the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to his of residence, was left with no choice but to drive as the driver dosed off during the ride.
Orungati tweeted about his experience saying that since the driver was drunk and drowsy, he had the car pulled over and drive back home. “This driver behavior needs to be caught and handled as it is a very serious safety issue. This is most common to and from airports at night in India. Having a person checking for this before starting trip should be doable,” he wrote in a subsequent message.
Later he tweeted, “Uber safety team promptly called back after 20 hours and said I shouldn’t drive a cab because that’s a safety issue. And that they’ll educate the driver whatever that means and might terminate the driver if there’s recurrence,” he wrote.
