Udupi: Following in the steps of Dakshina Kannada district, Udupi is all set to launch a Sand Bazaar App for the district. The app is being designed with the aim to eliminate the involvement of middlemen and to provide sand to the citizens at a cheaper rate right at their doorsteps.
Speaking after presiding over district sand coordination committee meeting at DC’s office on Thursday, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati spoke about the app and said, “The Sand Bazaar App is currently being designed. Once it is launched, sand will be available to citizens only through the app."
“The app is being developed on lines of the Sand Bazaar App that was launched in Dakshina Kannada district. The company developing the app is provided with required information. Discussions were held with various departments and details that can be included in the app are collected. Sand will be distributed only through the app. With this, there will be no room for confusion,” explained the DC also asking the software company to launch the app soon.
“People can order for sand from the spot closest to them. They can check the rates online. Sand will be delivered to one’s doorstep, if the amount is paid online. There is no need to hire a vehicle to get the sand delivered. Once sand is ordered, details of sand loading and the vehicle details through which it will be delivered will be sent to the mobile phone of the person who placed the order. Sand contractors and vehicles that transport sand need to register on the app. Workshops will be conducted to train drivers of sand transporting vehicles on using the app. A similar workshop will be conducted and citizens will be trained on placing orders,” said the DC.
Additional deputy commissioner Vidya Kumari, Kundapur zonal forest officer Prabhakaran, Kundapur sub divisional officer Madhukeshwar, mining and geology department officer Ranji Naik and other department officials were present.
