Bengaluru: BBMP may have the money to seek after extravagant ventures, for example, recently laid out Church Street, however it doesn’t have the money to pay pourakarmikas their salaries. On Monday, BBMP’s stinginess paid a huge price. Subramani, a 37-year-old pourakarmika, committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Vyalikaval. When he was brought to the KC General Hospital, he had passed away.

Subramani’s family have claimed that being left without pay for a six months had driven him to commit suicide. The family members staged a protest in front of the hospital. They even debilitated to bring Subramani’s body to BBMP head quarters.

The BBMP has fixed Rs 17,564 as the salary for a pourakarmika that incorporates EPF and ESI. More than 7,000 pourakarmikas haven’t been paid for a six months now. So while the aggregate sum the BBMP needed to pay as salary was Rs 1,05,000, it delivered a compensatory check of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased pourakarmika’s family with great promptness.
