The man Benjamin Daniel Hughes was to board the Bengaluru-Kolkata AirAsia India flight which was scheduled for departure at 5.55 pm on Wednesday. However, as the bullet was discovered in his baggage during the routine screening procedure he was not allowed to board the flight.
As carrying arms and ammunition is banned inside an aircraft without government authorisation, he was taken to airport police.
A TNIE report states that Hughes told the police that the bullet belonged to his .30-30 cowboy gun (.30-30 Winchester) which he used for hunting purposes, maybe two years ago. He added that he possesses a valid gun license but had no clue the bullet was inside his bag.
