The twin-engine plane, which had taken off from BOS at 2:22 PM, was headed to Hancock County–Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) in Trenton, Maine. However, shortly after takeoff, the aircraft experienced a landing gear malfunction, forcing it to return to Boston, according to a spokesperson from Massport, the airport’s operator.
A tense moment unfolded when video footage shared on X captured the small aircraft descending with just one wheel deployed. Onboard were two passengers and a crew member. Despite the malfunction, the pilot safely landed the plane at around 3:20 PM, with the aircraft touching down on one side after a prolonged effort to keep it steady. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all three passengers exited the plane safely.
Commercial pilot Patrick Smith, speaking to WBZ News, emphasized how rare such landing gear issues are. He remarked, “The key here is to keep the plane balanced on the working gear for as long as possible—it’s not easy once you lose speed.”
