Due to the halt in the water inflow from Netravati River, the water level at Thumbay dam had fallen to 5.46 meters. But with the letting out of water from Shamboor dam the water level at Thumbay vented dam has increased to 6 meters.

In accordance to the Deputy Commissioner’s order, one vent of the dam was opened at 6 pm on Mar 21 and the vent was closed at 8 pm on Mar 22.

Presently the water level at AMR dam has dropped to 4 meters. Of this, only 2.5 meters of the water can be used as the 1.5 meters of water at the bottom cannot be used.

Due to the temperatures rising by the day, the water in Netraavati River is evaporating fast. But the river’s water is essential for the drinking and farming purposes. This level may be maintained for the next 10 days, inform officials.

For the next 60 days, there is a possibility that Mangaluru City Corporation may inevitably have to provide drinking water through rationing.
