He was speaking at the inauguration of the “Amrutha Bharati Kannada Arati” programme organized jointly by the district administration and the Department of Kannada and Culture on Saturday at the Town Hall.
Nalin said that Indians had to struggle for many years to get back the land ruled by the Mughals and the British. “It was an age of struggle, not a dark age. Many patriots have fought for independence. Their struggle and sacrifice is the reason behind the self-respect we enjoy today,” he said.
In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV said that the youth need to know the history of freedom struggle and freedom fighters. If we forget history, history will forget us. Young people should learn about the nation’s past. Visit surrounding historical sites and put in efforts to understand historical events, he said.
